(SEOUL) - Korean-American Brian Kim (USA) has won the US Junior Amateur Golf Championship organized by the United States Golf Association (USGA).
Brian Kim defeated Joshua Bai (New Zealand) by two shots in the final round on the final day of the 75th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Daniel Island Club in Charleston, South Carolina, U.S., on Tuesday (July 31).
The tournament, for amateurs 19 and under, features stroke play for the first and second rounds to narrow the field to the top 64 before a match play format to determine the winner.
Brian Kim, who is set to attend prestigious Duke University in the United States, was born in Maryland, USA, and was a competitive swimmer until the age of 10.
Brian Kim's parents (Charles Kim and Changsook Kim) were in attendance to watch him compete.
This is the first time in seven years that a Korean-American player has won the event, which was founded in 1948, since Lee Min Woo (AUS) in 2016.
Tiger Woods (USA) won the event three times in a row from 1991 to 1993, while Jordan Spieth (USA) also won in 2009 and 2011.
Current World No. 1 Scott Schauffler (USA) was also the 2013 champion.
Brian Kim (KOR) won the tournament to qualify for the 2024 US Open.
