Shin Ji-ah is showing off her women's senior single free performance at the 2023 National Men's and Women's Figure Skating President's Cup Ranking Competition held at the Uijeongbu Indoor Ice Rink in Gyeonggi-do on the 3rd.
Korean figure skaters Shin Ji-ah (Yeongdong Middle School) and Kim Hyeon-gyeom (Hangwang High School), the ‘futures’, cruised to the gold medal in the International Skating Union (ISU) Junior Grand Prix Final, a battle of kings.
Shin Ji-ah scored 69.08 points, adding 38.41 technical scores (TES) and 30.67 artistic scores (PCS) in the women's single short program at the 2023-24 ISU Figure Junior Grand Prix Final held in Beijing, China on the 7th.
With 68.27 points, she beat second place Mao Shimada (Japan) by 0.81 points.
Shin Jia, who won a silver medal at the Junior Grand Prix Final last season, raised her hopes for her first personal gold medal in this competition by taking first place in the short program.
Shin Ji-ah, whose performance score (GOE) was reduced by 0.23 points in the first task, the triple flip-triple toe loop combination jump, due to unstable landing, performed the following double axel cleanly and earned a GOE of 0.80 points.
Shin Ji-ah, who performed the flying sit spin at level 4, easily performed the triple lutz, which received 10% extra points.
He finished the performance by handling the change foot combination spin, step sequence, and layback spin at the highest level of difficulty, level 4.
Kim Yu-seong (Pyeongchon Middle School), a member of the twin national team who participated together, scored 62.71 points (5th place), including 35.64 TES points and 27.07 PCS points. Minsol Kwon (Mokdong Middle School) ranked 6th with 62.12 points, including 34.47 points in TES and 27.65 points in PCS.
Ji-ah Shin, Yu-sung Kim, and Min-sol Kwon are aiming for medals in the free skating event on the 8th.
In the men's single short program held earlier, Kim Hyun-gyeom ranked first with 77.01 points, including 41.24 points in TES and 35.77 points in PCS. Lim Ju-heon (Suri High School), who received 73.72 points, including 38.24 points in TES and 35.48 points in PCS, ranked second.
The men's free skating for this competition will be held on the 9th.
